PLEASE READ THE TERMS OF USE FOR THIS PLATFORM AND ITS RESULTS CAREFULLY. USE OF THIS PLATFORM AND ITS RESULTS CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF THESE TERMS

Initially, the CMIP6 evaluation results produced with the ESMValTool are water-marked and made available on this public website. This strategy has been supported, encouraged, and approved by the WCRP Working Group of Coupled Modelling (WGCM). Therefore, all results presented on this website are strictly confidential at this stage and should not be used in publications. In addition, please follow the CMIP6 Terms of Use (https://pcmdi.llnl.gov/CMIP6/TermsOfUse).

PHASE 2: OPEN TO THE PUBLIC (This phase applies when the results are not water-marked.

Users who are including figures from this website in presentations or papers are kindly asked to cite the following “Software Documentation Paper” alongside with the Software doi (doi:10.17874/ac8548f0315) and version number: Eyring et al., ESMValTool (v1.0) – a community diagnostic and performance metrics tool for routine evaluation of Earth system models in CMIP, Geosci. Model Dev., 9, 1747-1802, doi:10.5194/gmd-9-1747-2016, 2016. (will be updated to version 2.0) Besides the above citation, users are kindly asked to register any journal articles (or other scientific documents) that use the Software at ESMValTool webpage (see http://www.esmvaltool.org/). Citing the Software Documentation Paper and registering your paper(s) will serve to document the scientific impact of the Software, which is of vital importance for securing future funding. You should consider this an obligation if you have taken advantage of the Software, which represents the end product of considerable effort by the development team.

In addition, we encourage the community to join the Software Development Team and to contribute additional diagnostics and performance metrics or other software improvements. Contributing back the new diagnostics and performance metrics or other software improvements will help to enhance the capability of the Software, which is of vital importance for securing future funding. The Software represents a product of considerable effort by the development team.
